MEXICALI, Mexico.- The Boys U19 Pan Am Cup was officially announced to local media this Thursday at the Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Institute headquarters in this city.
The National young teams of Brazil, USA, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Mexico will compete in this tournament scheduled from July 11th trhu the 16th at the State's Auditorium, where the 2007 Boys' Youth and 2009 Girls' Junior FIVB World Championships were played.
During the conference Mexico's U17 and U19 units were introduced to the press, as part of the preparation process for both squads.
The U19 team will compete in the cup, while the U17 will play a series of unofficial training matches against the visiting countries during their practice sessions.
“This will be a great strategy in the preparation of our youngsters to get international exposure, and experience", said mexican coach Oscar Licea, whose technical staff was also introduced along with some sports authorities who will support the tournament’s organizing committee.
Many of the players have been chosen after a training camp held in Tijuana over the last two weeks.
But some of them have played in imternational events like the Norceca championships, as well as in internal contests such as the Mexican National Junior Olympic Championships.
“When you talk about preparing a team is no just for one event, you have to practice and be prepared for a long competition cycle, that’s the key to a succes”, said Saul Castro Verdugo, General Director of the Baja California Sports Institute and Norceca First Vicepresident.
The arrival of foreign teams starts this friday 8th while the preliminary interviews and the general technical meeting are scheduled for this weekend.
